Cell phone reviews
Now that you've furnished some awesome gift ideas for the wife (no need to stop yet though), how about some cell phone reviews? I know, we'd love a Blackberry, an iPhone or a Samsung Instinct, but what about just a great phone for voice and texting? Anybody tried a Motorola Hint for example?

Can't help you there . My cell phone has a single purpose. It sits in my glove compartment so I can make a call in case of emergency. My daughter spends a small fortune texting and going over the limit as well as silly downloads. But I don't even use the land line unless absolutely necessary.

It was worth a shot. Unfortunately, we've had so many crises in the last decade my cell phone has become indispensable.

I am not a fan of Motorola phones the port that they use to charge the phone and connect to PC's are rather crappie (best word I could think of). I have 2 questions for you speech.
1. Do you already have a cell phone plan? And if so who is it through and if you don't who are you thinking about going with?
2. Is your wife going to only use it for calls and texting or is also going to surf the web and check email?

You know, I'm sure they're nice and handy but they do make you look like a Borg. My phone may be attached to my hip but I don't need one of those things. In the car is a different story though, EVERY cell phone user needs a hands free device in the car or they need to turn their phone off. Can't tell you how many times I've nearly been run over by someone with a cell phone attached to their ear.

spitvenom is right. The ports where you plug things in are junk. My brother just took his 3rd razor in for the same problem. I've always liked LG. I've never had any major problems with them

I am currently with Sprint and our Razr's have been just fine for 2 years, other than I can't get my wife's to take a software update. I have no problem with the ports, sound quality is good, but they are fingerprint magnets and the side buttons are poorly placed. I do like Sprint's actual service here even though their customer service really sucks. Big time.
If I go with a smart phone it will likely be a Blackberry Curve through Alltel. I'm not a fan of AT&T at all, we don't have Verizon, T-Mobile's coverage is horrible here and Alltel gets good reviews locally with people I know. So, we're looking at probably staying with Sprint or going to Alltel.
I don't really need internet, just voice and text. A QWERTY keyboard would be nice but I'm not thrilled with the LG Scoop or Rumor from what I've read. So, Alltel has this Motorola Hint but I see no real reviews. Sprint has an LG Lotus that looks intriguing... but I just want a great phone.

I'm going to have to stand up for the motorollas
Not because that's the type of phone I have. My brother had one, and he dropped it many times, once he dropped it in the toilet(don't ask me how), and once it fell out of his truck and he ran it over, and he had it for a year after that.
