    Why can you not use an oak leaf when studying living cells?

    I can't think of any reason. Oak leaves have living cells, just like any other living leaf. Is this a homework question?

    Or is this a trick question that assumes that if you pick the leaf you kill the cells? That would be true of any leaf eventually, though it would take a while.
