The Haupagge card that is part of my m8300f has 3 Coax inoputs ,is the DTV coax inoput for Digital TV do I hook it to the main cable of my Set Top Comcast Box or just use it with my computer and I'm not even sure how to make it work here ,about 1/3 of the advertising promises proved to be lies ,for an "expensive low end computer)CNET, and they are right it had all the bells and whistles to make this stupid man (me) unfortunately buy it but if the DTV Coax input can help it would bed great to hear any advice

At the insistence of television program and movie producers many cable companies take measures to restrict reception (and DVR recording) of most of their digital programming to rental converter boxes and equipment using rental authorization devices (commonly valled Cable Card). As a result many computer tuner cards are only able to utilize the cable company's analog programming and a limited set of channels like your local Over The Air (OTA) broadcasters and a few local access channels (like school board and city council/county supervisor meetings).

Computers having compatibility with the out of town channels on most cable systems will probably be limited to those "Multimedia" models that come with digital converter cards, built in slots for the authorization card AND the higher priced license for the "Multimedia" version of the Windows operating system. Expect the related viewing and recording software to DEMAND the presence of a limited range of computer and component models to function.

RF outputs on digital cable converters are typically configured to downgrade the signal to standard definition (SDTV). High Definition (HDTV) from the converters is usually only available over Component or HDMI connections . Some systems might not support HDMI, despite the presence of a HDMI port on the converters).
