    Furnace condensate trap
Why do I need a Condensate trap on my furnace? Why can't I just run a tube to my floor drain?

In my area of the country you are not required to have a trap on the condensate drain. But some cities have some funny ideas, I am sure that someone will be on line in a bit and tell you why you have to have one.

His question was answered already in another post. He will just keep asking until somebody gives him the answer he wants. Furnace manufactures have the condensate trap listed in the instructions for a reason. If you do not like the reason call the engineer at the furnace manufacturer and ask them if you can remove it. It is there for a reason or it would not be required. Have the engineer write you a letter and have him use his PE (professional engineer) stamp. If he is stupid enough to do it you will not need the trap. But then the engineer accepts all responsibility.

No matter what area of the country you live in if the manufacturer says you have to have a condensate trap one has to be there. Even if the code does not require one the furnace manufactures requirements always over ride any local, state,or federal codes. Not installing a trap or any other device as required by the manufacturer violates it UL or CSA certification and there for you are on your own for any liability.
