Ex boyfriend owes me money on plane ticket
Back in May of 2008, my long distance boyfriend in Ohio told me to buy a flight out of San Francisco to see him. I asked several times prior to purchasing the ticket on a special discount site if he could get that time off and he would procrastinate on telling me to go ahead on buying my ticket. FINALLY in the beginning of May he said to get it. I was to leave at the end of July for a week vacation over there in Ohio. We made plans to do several things where he lives. He seemed very excited to have me see him as we have only been able to call or e-mail each other since we met in Sept of 2007 when I was on vacation in Vegas. Long story short, he decided in the middle of June, after the ticket had been purchased to tell me he cannot see me for personal reasons. He would pay for my ticket and he was very sorry and later in July he called me to tell me he had reasons he could not see me at all. He said we would still be friends but I have not heard from him since July 7th. I have tried to call and e-mail him several times, all along being very nice and as non demanding as possible about paying me back. He knows I REALLY need that money and he's not hurting. He has a decent day job, plays in a band on weekends, get paid good for that and sells guitars on the side. He owes me $409. This was all verbal, on the phone. I have a recording of him I saved off my answering machine regarding paying me back and an e-mail stating the same, letting him know how much the ticket was so he can pay me back. He's always been afraid of conflicts and I learned he's very insecure, which I think is why after breaking up he does not want to contact me even though just sending a money order would not make me think that we were getting back together again. Is there a way to get this money from him? I hate to go to small claims, but if push comes to shove I guess. HELP!

Well I would get someone you both know and are comfortable with, and have that person contact him.

If you decide on Small Claims it's based on where the Defendant lives - which would be Ohio and you appear to be in California.

Other than asking for the money or going to Small Claims I don't see a way to prod him into paying.

Sometimes an Attorney can shake money loose but with this relatively small sum (and I'm speaking "legally") that is probably not practical.
