    Child custody
I'm the Mother of a 2 year old. The Father has never cotributed to any support . He has never came to visit him more than 5 times for 1/2 hour . Now he is wanting to get custody of him. He is a drug addict and a abusive person what can I do to stop this. I 'm horified.

You go into court with evidence of his addiction abuse and lack of previous contact. If he has an attorney I strongly suggest you get one too.

I would relax a bit though, he would have to prove you unfit for a court to order a change.

Scott,Thank You .I have retained a Attorney. But maybe the holiday's will be better because of your answer. I wish laws would change if a man or woman does not cotribute support to a child ,I believe they should not have any rights. This man has never given even a box of diapers.

The issue is if they don't want to, you have to go get the money, get their pay garnished if they work.

There is a difference between rights and custody. There is also a difference between dodging responsibility and not being able to fulfill them.

There are many situations where someone becomes a parent before they are ready. It may take some time for such a person to mature enough. So it needs to be left open to allow a person to grow.

That doesn't mean just because THEY think they are ready that they are. If you can prove the drug addiction and abusive behavior, then it is unlikely he will get custody.
