I have a Murray 14HP Model # 287707 riding lawn mower. It will start up an run but when you engage the cutting gear it will not engage. The blades are spinning as well as the belt for the cutting gear but the gear doesn't engage. The running gears will engage, but does make a noise, when you do not have the cutting gear engaged. If the cutting gear is engaged the lawn mower will only go as fast as first gear no matter what gear you put it in. The grass does not get cut even though the blades are spinning and the cutting gear belt is spinning? What could be the problem?

Hi,
You have given the engine model #. Should be a silver and black or white and black sticker on the rear of the machine or under the seat. The first two digits will be the deck size.
