Turn the "thingy" so that the word PILOT is lined up with the little line on the valve (if you have one that is).

    Push down on the "thingy".

Place match, lighter etc. near pilot.

When pilot lights keep the "thingy" pushed down for 30 seconds or so.

Let up on "thingy". If pilot goes out wait 5 minutes and repeat. This time hold "thingy" in longer.

If pilot maintains then turn "thingy" to on.

Why do I feel so dirty saying "thingy"?
