    Installation of ceiling fixture
I purchased a ceiling fixture and my son installed it. It has 2 white wires and two black wires which he connected to the white and black one in the ceiling but the light does not turn off from the wall switch. The ceiling wiring also has a red wire which I do not know what to connect that to or how to get the wall switch to work:confused:

We need some additional information before we can assist you.

Is the main power cable in the ceiling a 3 wire (Black - Red - White and bare ground)?

What two conductors go to the wall switch, Red and Black, Black and White?

The key is how was the old fixture connected?

This is a very common problem when folks disconnect every wire and splice when doing a simple fixture swap.

From the ceiling, splice the two whites together. Splice the two blacks together.
Connect the fixture whites to the ceiling whites. Connect the fixture blacks to the ceiling RED. Leave the other spliced blacks alone.
