    Payroll Deductions
I started working about 2 months ago. After working for one week I was told that I get paid monthly. My first paycheck was for 670.00 for about one week. My second paycheck was for a complete month. My gross pay was 3240.00 for the whole month. I claimed married and 9 dependents. My total deductions was just under 800.00 dollars for the month I thought it was high for 9 dependents. I live in the city of Lake Forest, Orange County, CA. I did not tell my employer to hold taxes at a higher rate. Can someone tell me if my employer is taking out too much in taxes from my paycheck. Thank You

    Well, let's see:

Social Security (at 6.2%) would be $200.88.

Medicare (at 1.45%) would be $46.98.

Even with NINE exemptions, you can expect that SOME federal and state income taxes will be withheld.

PLUS, you have to pay California SUI/SDI and whatever your share of your medical insurance would be.

So I suspect that the $800 in deductions is probably about right.
