I have a Sears snow blower Model 247.88664 I took the carb off & cleaned it & all ready to go BUT I can't seem to hook up the linkage no matter how hard I try I bet I tried at least two hrs or more I don't give up easy but I finally had to walk away. It has springs on which I did not fool with the rod with the 2 z bends I don't know which holes they go in & should the leaver be up or down or closed I though I tried every combo

Hi,
I hope that you left a digit out of the model number or itisan antique! I will assume it is Tecumseh, since they start in cold weather well.
There should be two rods, onesolid and one with a spring conneted to the governor arm. Addititioanlly, there should be aconnection point where the throttle connects. The solid rod connects to the carb directly from the governor arm(usually the end hole.) Look for wear/shiny hole in the arm and throttle plate on the carb. The other link connects at one end to the control(solid) and governor arm(spring.) The spring provides a balancing effect to the governor operation which controls the carb directly through the solid rod.

that's all the numbers I was able to find, I think the blower is late 90's anyway I read your answer but when I conect everything the throttle does not move the arm with the spring pulls the arm in one direction that's it. I can't get it to open & close I never took off the spring when I took off the carb I took the rod with the z bends off & I though I put it back the same way & it's a Tecumseh so I'm still stuck

Well, I was trying to find you a picture but Sears does not identify the engine. The machine is an MTD but their site is uncooperative without an MTD model and serial #. Otherwise it is quite good.
Can you find the engine numbers? Usually a silver tag with several sets of digits, like HS50 1445537F 8197

Hi,
Sorry to take so long, but Sears does not openly identify your engine. The 143 part means Tecumseh(vendor #) and the picture identifies it as a valve-in-block Snow King engine.
First I'll try the picture and then try to attach the repair manual:

that looks like my set up but when I hook it up & move the gas lever up or down nothing moves the spring holds the one arm in one direction I don't see any other spring & I only took off the one linkage with the 2 z bends to take off the carb what am I missing thanks for all your help by the way
the pic of the carb looks dead on the pic 16 looks like my set up. The arm to the left where the linkage hooks up to is pulled to the right & not the left I don't see any spring not hooked up or any thing missing.

Hi,
I guess with over thirty years in the business, I sometimes overlook some things. A few questions:
1. Does the throttle arm pivot freely on its own?
2. You understand that nothing really functions without the engine running, throttle will be open or closed and little balance between, the governor does that when running?
3. You did take particular notice of the ends of the rods, come up from bottom in some cases, they can bind if upside-down?
4. Would you like me to put the entire service manual on a site I control for download, too large to attach here?

Well I hooked up everything & still won't run it runs if I take out plug & put a couple drops of gas. Nows here's another question going to the carb is the gas line gas flows free no prolbem on the other side a smaller hose its going to primber bulb I felt air comeing from the out side of the carb the bulb does not seem to get hard when primeing the hose is on the carb & the other end is at the priming bulb can this be the problem.

Hi,
No it would not be. The only job of the primer is to force air into the chamber above the fuel level in the float chamber. This in turn forces a small amount of fuel through the fuel pipe into the venturi to aid starting, especially in cold weather.
I sound as if no fuel is getting into the main jetting area. There are some very tiny hole in the main jet and fuel pipe. The plug in the bottom of the carb is removable without carb removal, just clamp off the fuel line, and should have a small hole at some location just above the lower threaded portion(some carbs have two threaded portions) and will be at a slant. Additionally, the pointed end of the wire that attaches to the float Must point toward the air filter. A Tecmseh float does Not have a level attitude, it is about 5/32" lower opposite the hinge with carb inverted.

Well I finally got it running :D I took it all apart again & hooked it all back up & its running Im glad I found this site & thanks for all your help,now let it snow Im ready :rolleyes:
