    Dead plug
I have a 10 yr old condo with one dead plug in the finished basement. It has 2 wire, 14g coming too the box. On the same wall there is another box with a 3 wire and 2 wire coming in. The three wire is the power source as indicated by the red going back to a switch. It would seem logical that the 2 wire would go to the dead box.
I have disconnecte the ground and ohmned the ground between the hot box and the dead box and find no connectivity. I have ohmnd the ground from the dead box to two junction boxes in the room, no connectivity.

Most wires to plugs in the room go through the wall and there is a drop ceiling so I can check.

I there any way to energize the dead plug and trace were the wire leads? Any other advice would be welcome.

I would disconnect power and the neutral(measure continuity with neutral), to verify receptacle IS from that box, May come from some where else. Verify the neutral is intact, with a known good hot.
The neutral will help identify which circuit from the panel the neutral is on.

I am remodeling my bathroom and my wife wants a 4 plug outlet. She currently uses one for the hair dryer and one to charge her electric toothbrush. The intent is to add a lighted mirror or something else that uses little power. Would it be OK to replace the GFCI with a 4 plug GFCI? I suspect...
