    Insulation questions
We are having a steel home built, with a white roof. Anyone out there have experience to share about insulation?

The building will come with 3 inches of insulation.

Is radiant barrier more effective under the roof, or over the living space?
What about dust collecting on the barrier if it is on the floor of the attic?
If foam better? What about flammibility? (It's expensive, I already know!)

Using a radiant barrier, what is the least amount of thermal insulation needed?

What part does ventilation play with these different insulations? I am told that with the foam, there is no ventilation. Is this good?

Any advice will be carefully evaluated.

    Thanks so much!!

Here is a good link for insulation values. Some considerations are window size and how many, heating plant, and location of the house.

My new home (2 weeks old) is very chilly in certain areas and I discovered that the contractor did not totally complete the insulation in the attic; (used R-13 in the rest of it) and that he used R-11 in the garage ceiling (area below cold zones), with none on the walls. I thought R-30+ was needed...

Insulation [ 4 Answers ]

I was wondering what the pros and cons are to putting insulation on the ceiling of a basement. The reason for my asking is someone has told me that it isn't wise because cold air doesn't rise anyways(I already knew that) and you would cut any heat off coming from the boiler and water heater that...
