What do your parents think about you dating a boy 3 years older that you?

Age 14 and 17 is a big gap because of the maturity that you gain in those 3 years. A 14 year old is much more imature than a 17 year old. A 17 year old is almost done high school, almost an adult. A 14 year old is just starting high school, just became a teen.

I wouldn't let my 14 year old daughter date a 17 year old, but that's my opinion.

Ask your parents what they think.

    Good luck.

Why not? I dates a 18 year old when I was 15. Same difference in age. My parents didn't care. Age is just a number. If you start seeing her getting into sex with this boy then start worrying but if she's mature enough and you already spoke with her about sex and what not then don't worry.

Babygurl, if your parents knew about it and were okay with it then fine, but the OP is asking us, she never stated that she had talked to her parents about it.

Believe it or not I was once 14, and yes, I thought I knew it all, I thought I was so mature, and I did date older guys. I lived to tell about it, barely, that's why I give the advice that I do.

At 14 you really aren't mature enough to decide to date someone 3 years older than you. A 17 year old boy is going to have sex on his mind, also, why would he want to date someone who is that much younger?

If I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have done the things that I did.

Also, talking to teens about sex, well, I wish that was enough, but it isn't. My parents were great, they talked to me about sex, about waiting till I was older, wiser, ready. I didn't listen, and I know that most of the kids today don't either.

It's a scary world. Pregnancy, STD's, AIDS, but most teens don't think about those things until it's too late.

I'm trying to be realistic about this, and 14 and 17, might as well be 20 and 40, when it comes to maturity.
