    Family movies
I am interested in family movie recommendations, or favorite family movies, that are "safe" for young children (mine are 4 and 6) Also ones that you DON'T recommend. Since I've hurt my back I've seen quite a few with my kids. The latest one we saw was a miniseries called Dinotopia. The kids loved it for the dinosaurs of course, but it also had a good message. Nanny McPhee is a good recent one, too. I personally enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia, but it was too scary for my 4 year old... he had nightmares. Same thing with A Series of Unfortunate Events. The kids were scared by it.

My two favorites from my childhood were The Neverending Story and E.T. And of course I loved The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin too. :)

Mary Poppins, The sound of Music, Annie,Benji, are all good classics.
My daughter was terrified of " the moke monter" in Ferngully! It was the machine that cut down the trees and the smoke/smog it produced scare her to death at age 5.But still a great movie with a good story.

Being 55, I still love the old Walt Disney and now the newer ones. I love the Lion King, Land Before Time, Ice Age I and II, Lady and the Tramp, Aristocats and many, many more.
I'm getting my collection out and ready for my grandchild - and he/she is not even here yet.
Oh, and the Jungle Book, Strawberry Shortcake series, My Little Ponies,.

OK, I'll stop for now - those should hold you for a while.

Two of my favorites are Babe, and Babe - Pig In The City, the sequel. The first one has many variations of Saint-Saens Symphony #3 (The Organ Symphony) as a continuing theme. The talking pigs, dogs, sheep etc. are very well done. There are a couple of mild references to barnyard animals being consumed by their owners. The sequel has one scene where a sheep is attacked by dogs, and fails to survive. You might preview it first to see if it is appropriate for the kids. I guarantee that you will enjoy them both. Homeward Bound - The Incredible Journey, and The Bear are on my A list. I have a weakness for any film with real critters.

These are all really great recommendations guys. I've seen most of the movies mentioned, but most I had also forgotten about, so thanks so much for reminding me!
