    Ported or unported?
Hey guys I put a sound system in my car and I have 54w per channel sony xplod sterio, 210 watt sony xplod fron speakers, 320 watt sony xplod back speakers, 600watt 4channel sony xplod amp, and 800w sony xplod sub.. I have my sub in an unported box and am thinking of getting another sub and amp.. they way I have the plans a port has no place to be put where it would be useful.. im just wondering if porting sounds different, and if I keep 2 subs unported if it will damage anything? Thanks guys and girls

Designing a ported speaker is no simple task. You can't just 'put a port' in a box and expect it to improve the sound. A properly designed ported enclosure (using the Thiels/Small method) will provide better bass than a sealed enclosure. But like I said, designing the enclosure is no simple task. Software exists to help with the design of ported enclosures.
Whether e speaker enclosure is ported or not makes little difference to the amplifier, so no 'damage' will be caused by having unported versus ported woofers. Just be sure you don't load the amplifier channels with anything lower than 4 ohms (i.e. don't connect two 4-ohm speakers to one amplifier channel!).
