    FIREPLACE -convert to 2 sided
HI 2 car garage converting into a studio apartment. There is a boxed out section in the garage where the fireplace is located in the living room. How difficult and how do you
Expose the fireplace in the living room to the garage side - make the fireplace into a 2 sided - but with brick in the middle - one chimney - to still provide a sense of privacy between the living room and garage?

Hope not too difficult as planning on doing the labor ourselves
    Thanks!

Do not start this project just yet. It looks simple but its not that easy and you will need a permit. A traditional firebox supports a few tons of chimney and what you propose may not hold the weight. I'd call 3 masons to get bids and see if any of them think it can be done. If you get one ask how he'd go about it and then decide if that's in your skill set.
