    Toilet Noise
Our toilet is making a loud noise throughout the day (and night) which sounds like it is refilling up the water (?) We tried adjusting it, but it didn't work. It wakes us up at night, and is raising our water bill, so any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

There's a distinct possibility the valve that allows water to enter the bowl when you want to flush isn't sealing properly. Could be the result of a rough or contaminated surface where the flapper valve seals against the edge of the opening, a deteriorated valve (the rubber in some deteriorates over a few months or a to tight/tangled chain between the handle and the flush valve. Sometimes the less expensive flapper valves at the hardware/home improvement are made of poor quality rubber or aren't molded to quite the proper shape. I have expereince of some leaking when newly installed. I've had good luck with a brand that features a rigid plastic frame (only the part that fits over the opening is rubber). I like the way that company's supply valve/float operates as well (runs water at full speed until the tank is full).

Replace flapper valve. Insure that water level is set to 1" below the top of the over flow pipe.

Check the tank water level, it should be at the mark in the tank or 3/8 to 1/2" below the top of the over flow tube. Now look at the flapper, If it has wavy edges on the flat surface, replace it. The linkage between the flapper and the flush lever should have 1/4" play when the tank is filled. Also, check the small tube coming out of the top of the ballcock and make sure it's connect to and draining into the white overflow tube. . More questions? I'm as close as a click. TOM

One of our toilets makes a loud noise, which seems to be coming from the pipes. It kind of sounds like there may be air or that the water is having trouble getting through the pipes. The noise starts once the tank is about half empty. Any ideas?
