I am writing a thesis statement for my essay on the Scarlet Letter. I need to know if it is OK. It is about the theme of guilt.

The characters in the Scarlet Letter deal with their guilt in different ways. The Scarlet letter demonstrates through Dimmesdale's death, the damaging potential of moral irreponsibility, and through Hester's ultimate success, the beneficial capability of accepting responsibility for one's own flaws.

I see no striking problems with what you have written other than irresponsibility was mis-spelled. It's a very fine opening statement! I do hope that it's all in line with the way that your teacher wanted you to do it, though. It would help to know what the specific instructions were.
