How long do the police have.
Ok, so here's this fun complicated situation: My boyfriend had about 500 pills (ex) in our house overnight holding them for his friend. We informed the police that they were there and proved they were not ours. The police were satisfied and he was not arrested (his friend was obviously.) We moved across country, and about two weeks later, he was told to come back by the detective involved. He went back and they told him that they would press charges if he didn't work for them (could easily be a lie). Now he's been there for a month, and the police have only spoken with him once. I feel like they are just messing with him now, like perhaps they know the case won't go to trial and that's why they haven't bothered to activate the supposed warrants. How long do they have to actually go through with it? He's just kind of stuck there in the meantime and it seems like no one actually cares if he's doing anything or not.

Oh and by the way, this all happened in NC, if that makes a diff as to the statute of limitations.

    Hello ms:

Cops DO lie, and they're scumbags to boot.

If your boyfriend wants to STOP being a snitch, he needs to hire a lawyer. It's what he should have done in the first place...

There is no such thing as a warrant that is not "active" if they have a warrant, it will be on the national data base

Next no he does not talk to the police without his attorney, and
NO, he does not drive back and move somewhere just because the police ask. You can offer to make statements and you can give them the name of your attorney,

He is being used, the more crime they get him involved in, the more they can just arrest him and deny working with him.

Thing is, he did hire a lawyer, and the lawyer suggested that he cooperate with the police.

    Hello again, m:

Then he should FIRE that lawyer, and hire one who will get him out of his jam.
