    New wide screen monitor.
I recently purchased a new monitor, HP L1908w and I am not happy with the way it shows characters. It's fine for pictures and graphics, and DVD's show well on the screen. But characters show up as bold and faded both in the same line... and often there is a hint of color in the characters. I have used auto-adjust which comes with the monitor, loaded the new driver and selected cleartype in settings... but still the type is not as crisp or clear as I would like it to be. Any suggestions?

Personally, I don't like cleartype. I feel like it gives me exactly the symptoms you describe. You might try turning it off and see how it looks.

    Good luck,

Try changing the resolution of the screen, as it sounds like you aren't using a supported res.

I have 19" and 24" HP monitors and have no problems like that you noted.

Try this: Right click on My Computer (or use Control Panel>System). Under Advanced>Performance Options>Visual Effects, make sure Smooth Edges of Screen fonts is UNCHECKED.
