We are developing a RV park and will install 50 amp service to our first 22 sites. Will it be possible to power 8 sites form a 200 amp load center (A) then run a line undergroung from (A) to a second 200 amp center (B) to power 8 more sites. The distance between A and B is 120 ft. The last site will be about 240 ft from A. If this is possible how do I come off A to connect to B and what size wire do I need to use? I hope this is not too confusing.

Is that 50 A 240/120 or 50 A/120. Looks like your thinking 50A 120.

400 A 240 V single phase service is about the best you will be able to get and that's like 16 slips, so you need something different. It might be 400 A at 460 V. Who knows. Or even 200 A, 240 V 3 phase.

In this type of situation there are alternate methods to distribute the power.

I'd have an electrical contractor do the planning for you and get the required power that you would need.

My guess is that they may wish to bring in a high voltage 3 phase service with a transformers nearby and bring the service in at 460 V. The 460 can be dropped to 240/120 and moved closer than the 240' with a panel in the middle of nowhere.

With the proper equipment, you can even turn off the service remotely or even consider billing for actual use.

Pay someone to get the infrastructure together.

Wire sizes will be different depending on length. 240 ft, might be too far, so they might decide to put a subpanel in the middle of the park at a higher voltage with a transformer there.

You need to provide the electrical contractor a nice drawing of all the RV locations and current buildings. He should then be able to determine an optimal solution.

Some RV pods contain cable, telephone and internet connections as well, but that seems to be going by the wayside with wireless and cell phones.

Big Daddy, this is NOT(!) a DIY project. Please get a qualified electrician to at least give you some on-site guidance.
He will be able to do the load calculations required to tell you what service size you need.


KISS, a 50A RV receptacle is 120/240v. A 30A is 120v.
