Facebook worry!
I really want Facebook, but my parents say I'm too young. I am 12 and all of my friends have it. They always ask "Oh whats your Facebook?" I often have to lie or say it doesn't work on my computer. I don't want to lie. How can I convince my parents to let me have Facebook, and that I am responsible enough to use it?

In all honesty, I wouldn't even try.
They have made their decision and I doubt they will change it.

Is the computer in your room or in a family room? Do your parents have access to what you view while online? With Facebook, only the people you have has friends can view your page, it is not open for anyone to see, so maybe they would consider a trial run... say let you have it for three months with their supervision so that they can become comfortable with how it works.
If they are still not comfortable with the idea, than let it drop until you are older like Curlyben said. How you handle the disappointment and accept what your parents say is a very important way to show that you are becoming more responsible.

Yes show them the pages, let them be there when you are on it.

Negotiate with them. Tell them they can know your log on and password. Tell them that you will only spend an hour or so on the weekends on it, under their monitoring. Also what are your grades like? Can you improve in any areas? Tell them that you are willing to prove to them that this is something you want. Tell them that you will improve in an area of school, or you will pick up extra chores or do extra schoolwork in order to get the privilege of getting a Facebook account.

Same with me I was grounded for 2 months because I joined Facebook. My best guy friend Steven has one but he has paranoid mom (and she's OK with it!)

Do they know that you're on this site?
Facebook can be highly addictive, also there's a possibility of viruses affecting your computer from programs on Facebook.
It's a great place for a predator to lure in a young child.
Having said that, if you talk to your parents and give them complete access to your Facebook page and let them implement the friends and family function so that no strangers can have access to your page, then maybe they'll agree.
Personally, I would not let my children use Facebook, but I'd have not problem with them coming to AMHD.
Good luck.

My parents don't know I'm on this site but why would that matter. This is the closest I can have to instant messaging

Instant messaging?
You do realize that this isn't a chat site, right?
I wouldn't have a problem with my kids joining this site, but that's because I know the kind of people that are here, and I know that they would never get led in the wrong direction from any of the experts on this site.
Having said that, I'd still want to know that they joined. I would not be comfortable, as a parent, with having my 12 year old on any internet site that I have not personally looked over.
Talk to your parents. Tell them that you're here on AMHD, let them read some of the posts and see what kind of people are here.
They will find out eventually, and then they'll have even less reasons to trust you with a Facebook account.l

I first got a Facebook and Myspace when I was 10.
I know that's against the rules but I'm 14 now.
Anyway, at first my dad said no but I showed him both of the sites and how protected I could make my information.
Try making a deal with them, ask them to share one with you or make one so they can check up on you.
That's what my father and I did up until I was 12 and he really learned to trust me to protect my information.

Tell them they can go on your Facebook everyday and check it.
