Specifics needed in trucking job quest
Are you sitting down? Here it is... I was convicted of the lowest degree felony for possession of a small amount of cocaine early in 2003. After six months in jail, I signed myself into an inpatient rehab and then a six month outpatient rehab. Combined makes it 20 months of weekly urine tests. Completed both successfully and never failed a drug test. I then became a manager in a drug treatment facility where I worked for over one year( I was so grateful I wanted to share my success with others) until I entered a truck driver training academy whereafter six weeks I obtained my CDL in June of 2006. Since that time I have been working for a moving company, breaking my back every day and also driving 28ft. Diesel trucks... but no 18 wheelers: because most companies would not hire me out of the CDL school because my felony was not at that time five years old yet. NOW MY FELONY IS OVER FIVE YEARS OLD, I HAVE A CDL THAT SEEMS TO BE USELESS BECAUSE I HAVE NO OTR EXPERIENCE... CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THE NAMES OF COMPANIES THAT WILL GIVE ME A CHANCE!? I know I need a refresher course or maybe to repeat school all over. I am willing to sign on with a company for a year or two if they will help me enter their school and/or trainee program and give me a job as an OTR driver. My youngest child has just entered the US Air Force so I've got plenty of time to hit the road and stay on the road if doors would stop slamming on me because of both my criminal history and lack of experience. I am at your mercy please help me WITH SPECIFIC NAMES OF COMPANIES THAT WILL HIRE ME. Simple telling me to go look is like telling me to find a needle in a haystack. Only experts need respond. Thank you.

I am not an expert but I did work in the Safety Dept of a trucking company long enough to know that you just have to keep calling these companies. You can go online and look for the larger companies and talk to the recruiter and see what they say. You do have experience so I don't know what your problem is. Most trucking companies have the 5 year out from any felony conviction. I could name names of the companies but I am sure you can find out who are the larger companies who would be willing to give you a chance. You can't haul hazardous stuff like gasoline, propane, chemical or go into Canada. Other than that most OTR companies are hiring as they can't keep good drivers. If you have a good driving record that's what really matters. You may have to hire onto a company that has a headquarters in a different state. That's what the company I worked for did - hire drivers literally all over the country to work for them. You don't have to be in the same state to work for a trucking company. You just need to show up for orientation and take a driving test after they okay your application.
