    Furnace restart
I need to know how to prime or get started my 3 year old furnace. I already followed the instructions on the cover but it did not work. I get the piolit lit but the furnace does not kick in. do I need to run water or make sure it has water, and how do I do that?

When you say "furnace" you actually mean Hot Water Heater... Correct ?

When the pilot is on - turn the Thermostat knob all the way to the right. One burner burning, adjust the Thermostat knob to the fat red mark (125F).

    Hi Mb576...

If by furnace you mean your forced air furnace....can be lots of stuff to complicate start up!

Start by resetting the electric BREAKER at the panel or installing a new fuse!

You said you got the pilot lit and it stayed lit.. Good! After this is lit and gas valve knob turned to the ON position you want to hit the electric switch to turn the unit on and then go upstairs and turn the thermostat up to say 80F or so.

Give this a minute or so and see if it kicks in. If doesn't kick in then could be a number of other issues!

BE sure to reinstall the door to unit as there is usually a safety switch that won't allow the furnace to fire without the door installed and secured!!

Let us know how you make out!

I am having this issue with a forced air furnace. Pilot is staying lit, I've replaced the thermocouple and when I initially turn the unit on, the main burners run. Overnight, the furnace stops working - pilot stays lit but the furnace won't kick in, even when I have it set to 65 and the temperature inside is 50. I this a faulty thermostat?
