He needs to be trained how to be in a room w/ people and be "calm submissive". This is hard to explain in words over the internet...

Go to a trainer, one that has a good reputation, (word of mouth) and tell them that you need to teach your dog to learn "calm submissive" under all circumstances, ESPECIALLY when your dog comes across new people.

Dogs that react like that are dogs that don't know their place within the pack. Meaning that you have not acquired "Packing Leader" position so the dog feels compelled to take that role. You have to be the one in command. A dog has to learn to stand BENEATH the humans in the family... even down to the smallest and youngest member.

This is not a difficult behavior to retrain. Just remember that whatever the trainer teaches you... you MUST be consistent w/ your dog, (daschunds are stuborn... ). You have to follow thru' w/ all commands and expect your dog to listen to you 100% of the time.

The training of a dog is the easy part... it's teaching the human HOW that can be the challenge.
