Installing xp on a laptop that has vista oem.
My girlfriend's father has bought a toshiba laptop which has vista pre-installed. She asked me to install winxp because of the delay when she tries to open any program and such. Ok, I put the winxp cd in and booted, then I got to the format drive and I get a blue screen. Why does this happen any idea of how to fix it?

Not every new system that has Vista on it can downgraded to XP. Contact Toshiba and verify this is even possible on your unit before you waste any time on it, or destabilize your system.

First of all ensure to have the sata driver loaded using F6 option to recognize the HDD during Xp installation. Some laptops have SATA driver for HDD which is not preinstalled in XP

Yeah if you don't have a floppy to do the F6 trick with, thers a program called Nlite that will let you integrate drivers into a new cd.

You probably need an XP with SATA drivers to install

If you install XP, you will more than likely void the warranty as it is new

For correct (legal) licensing the Vista to XP downgrade path only covers Vista Business to XP Professional.

As for the OP, are you using a FULL XP installation CD or a recovery/upgrade from another model ?
