My cat had her routine check-up with the local vet. The vet said she is fine but has some gingivitus and to see a specialist dental vet. She does have some redness at the gum line upper and much less on the lower. What is involved with treating this? What can I do in the meantime?

The biggest cause is the same as in humans- plaque. The best way to help cats avoid tooth and gum problems is to feed them dry food and the crunchy treats. These may also come with hairball treatment.

Thanks for the info. She has always had a 60-70% diet of hard food. No signs of plaque build-up otherwise normal and healthy. Would you suggest what we can do to help this condition?

Our vet said take her to a specialist dental vet for anesthesia and x-rays, nothing urgent. We want to do something in the meantime. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
