What causes someone to be clingy?
Something mostly everyone dreads in their spouse. My friends and I were discussing this and were wondering what causes this? Also, what are simple cures.

It could be... that they're naturally clingy as a human being.

It could also be that they're inexperienced in a relationship, and doesn't know how to "limit" themselves.

It could be that they're insecure.

It could be that they really don't have a life of their own.

    It could be...

    ... list... goes... on.

Your question sounds simple, but it's not, not in the least. There are 1000s of things... emotional, environmental, genetic, chaotic... that could lead to about 20 different kinds of clingy.

You see the problem? And cures... probably another 5-10 approaches for EACH of the different types of clinginess.

So, I know you want to be generic, but you can't be. You'll have to provide some brief but specific examples of the clinginess you're dealing with, including how you may have participated in some of it, if applicable.

Well, thank you for the help so far.

The "clingyness" I've experienced is that I've had trouble gaping the space in between me and my spouse.

But, now that my friend is experiencing the same problem. I can't find the words to help him.

What do you think has caused this "space" to happen between you and your spouse, please?

Just looking for some additional, descriptive and specific information here.

    Thanks!

Insecurity with ones self, or low self esteem, can cause this behavior. But as others have said, there are many reasons people become clingy to a partner. Being cheated on, or a traumatic relationship, or life, can lead to insecurity also.
