My bathroom faucet water smells "funny" sometimes when I first turn the water on. It does not smell coming out of any other faucet in my house. I have taken the screen off and cleaned it, nothing was there. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks

Some how my shower knob will no longer go all the way over to the hot side. In stead of a "smiley face" curve from hot to cold, I can get a big grin on the cold and only a smirk on hot. (I am trying to describe how far it will go from left to right.) It was NOT this when in the beginning. What do I do?

What's the brand name of the valve? One handle or two knobs? How old? Let me know, Tom

Did the water still smell after the aerator was off? Did the aerator smell? Back to you, Tom

Draw some cold water into a bowl and then some hot in another bowl. Take both bowls to another room and sniff them separately, which smells?

It is an "American standard" and maybe 5 to 7 years old. It is one knob that goes to theredraven

Bath faucet

Wow... you have helped me with 2 questions.. THANKS!
The water in the bath faucet only smells for the first few seconds. It is not STRONG... I usually notice it when I am leaning down to rinse my brushed teeth. The filter/screen(aerator?) did not smell, that I remember. And the water did not smell without it on, but like I said it smells only for the first few seconds. I will have to see if hot and cold smells, I am not sure. Kind of smells like rotten eggs, but not strong.
Right for cold and left for hot

Let me know if the hot side smells more then the cold side. Are you quite sure that when you bend down to spit that you aren't getting a whiff of the drain? Lavatory drains are famous for rotting hair and bad smells. I can't pull up a exploded view of your faucet so now I need a model number or a picture of the valve . Regards, Tom

Now you really got me laughing. I actually know which psot Tom was answering but it wasn't this one. Someone reported a smell coming from their bath faucet.

OK... it's cold water. (that smells) and I would have to look in storage to see if I still have the original box it came in, or the paper work. I can take a pix, but I do not know how to get the pix on here. But I am going to look and see if it tells me how.
As for the drain smelling. NOPE... I actually got a glass and put some of the water in it once. No funky color, but it had that odor... and away from the drain.
I am wondering.. my house was built in 1970, could the water pipe to that faucet have something wrong?

I am assuming the valve turns only one direction, counter-clock-wise to activate water flow. Therefore:

1. When you take that handle off, there will be a fat, white, plastic ring. It is temperature adjusting ring. It is slipped over the stem and fits into the middle tube. It is very possible that that ring got loose giving you uneven water mixture.

2. That handle itself is attached to the middle of the stem with a screw. That screw may have gotten loose not holding the handle firmly in place.

3. Your photo shows that the handle is in closed position - but it is turned to the right. Well, when you starting from this position, you are taking away from hot water adjustment. You don't have enough "room" to turn on hot water all the way.

OK.. I am a little confussed. To turn the water on, you pull the handle out, or up whatever. You then can turn it right for cold and left for hot.
OK... you can turn the knob l and are without the water being on. Cold will go to 4oclock, hot will only go to 7oclock. (I hope you understand,. LOL) So the hot side will not go as far as the cold side will. You can turn the water off at any position, hot or cold by pressing the handle inward.
With this info, are the directions you gave me still the right ones? Thanks
