    Lawn disaster
    Hi

I have recently laid a small lawn approximately 8 days ago. I dragged some info from the net about how to lay a lawn. The brief told me to leave a gap between the turfs lenghtways. I don't know why I didn't back up these facts but having recently consulted other sites they all say to lay the turfs as close as possible..

I'm panicking. What can I do?

    Thanks

Is the sod "setting"? Gently lift a corner of one of the pieces. Is it stuck?
I would say being only 8 days, you could still move them. (someone verify this) but water then well after moving.

They should be squished next to each other yes.

Not sure where you got the first batch of advice but don't go back there again, they are totally wrong. If you laid sod it should be tightly jointed to all other pieces in all directions. Like Static says its not too late to slide it over but that means nearly every row you laid is going to need help, except the first rom. You may even need more sod. Water daily depending on your weather, Chicago and Texas use a shop vac to suck up excess water.

Along with the fine previous answers you may also apply some soil, sand or compost along the seams and especially around the perimeter of the newly laid lawn. This prevents the seams and edges from drying out. Also, do not forget to roll over the sod again once it is moved to assure it has good contact with the soil.
