When Gunner was younger our vet advised us to hold off on running until he was a little older. His concerns were that his joints need to develop prior to the pounding running produces.

Does anyone have recommendations as to how old Gunner should be prior to 3-5mi runs.

Wait until the dog is 2 years old to begin distance training. Start with half a mile every other day. Increase the distance by 10 percent each week. Give the dog a day off for every day of running. Dogs should be between 50-70 lbs to withstand the rigour of running long distances. Enjoy
