    Bathroom in the basement
    I recently purchased a house with an unfinished basement. I ve been thinking about finishing the basement and installing a bathroom down there. My question is how would I go about doing that. The waste line runs underneath the cement floor. I think it is made of cast iron but I'm not exactly sure. My plan is to break the cement open and to run a waste line to the toilet and shower and connect it to the main waste line. How would I connect them and how would I seal up the floor. Please help.

    Hey Bobby,

    It's not quite as simple as all that. Every fixture that has a trap MUST br vented out the roof or revented back into a dry vent. I'll tell you what I can do to help and the information you must provide me before I can do it. I can lay the bathroom group out according to Standard Code and instruct you on converting from cast iron to PVC and how to vent the group but I'll need a diagram showing me the area you wish the fixtures to go, the type of fixture you wish to install and above all I need to know exactly where the main is, Where it exits the house, (hint! At the cleanout) and the location of the stack coming down from upstairs.
