    Collection Agency Caller From Hell?
    Hey there,,

A friend of mine is being harassed by a collection agency. My friend debt is from a credit card from one particualer bank.
The collection agency person told her to go to a different bank and make a deposit in such and such account.

Ive been wondering about that, It kind of sounds strange no? Keep this in mind, my friend hasn't been sent anything in writing in regards to what she owes and to who she is to pay it to.

Anyone know why the agency person would tell my friend to go to a different bank and make deposits there? By the way, the person "representing" the collection agency has also told my friend "I can have someone come to your house" among other threats.

    Any advice? Thank you

If this debt has truly been assigned to the collection agency (and we would recommend your friend obtain confirmation of same) then the bank account that your friend is being asked to make a deposit to may belong to the collection agency.

Collection agencies generally want you to make payment to them and not their clients for any of the following reasons:

    - they have purchased the debt and therefore all payments should go to them only

    - they want to be able to take their commission out of the monies before forwarding the balance to their client

    - the client has asked them to exclusively manage the delinquent account

Have them record the calls for now, but mail them a letter demanding they no longer contact them by phone.

Hang up when they call and don't talk to them at all is best till you stop them from calling.

They lie over the phone, they break the law, and will cheat and steal from you if they can

If they call again, get their name and address. Then send certified letter requesting validation of debt. Additionally inform them that they are to cease and desist all communication until validation of debt is received. You can look up sample letters on internet if you type in sample validation of debt letters at Google. Do not sent any money to anyone. Additionally, document all calls and if possible record calls and tell them that they are being recorded. It is against the FDCPA for creditors to threaten you.
