    Debt Collection on Sold Property
Question - Bought a mobilehome for $24,000.00 - $20,000.00 cash for which title was released to me and $4,000.00 payments to be made over 3 years. Paid 6 months of payments but due to lack of work in the area that I had moved to defaulted never heard from party they never heard from me after 6 months. Sold property to pay off new debt since I had title. Still owe the $4,000.00 and have been contacted by a debt collector have tried to make contact with original party explained what happened and am trying to see if they will respond. I don't know if contacting the agency will just speed up the collection process by providing them with my personal info. Or if it can be helpful. Cannot afford wage garnishment - please provide advice.

If they turned the debt to a collections agency, then you deal with them. More than likely, they sold the debt so they are no longer a party to the collections.

If you can, offer a lump sum settlement.
