    Breaking a lease
We are struggling here in California. We have an oppurtunity to move to Alaska (better pay, cheaper rent and could afford to live in a better neighborhood with better schools.) We have 8 months on our lease. Is there any thing we can do.

You can try to negotiate with your landlord, see if you can reach a compromise, ask if you can sublet. Otherwise you have signed a contract and are bound by its terms.

You are tied into the exact terms of the lease, unless the landlord will agree to some other terms

Also check with the employer. Is it a brand new job, or a transfer. Lots of companies have relocation packages. They realize that people have costs associated with breaking leases, selling houses, moving, etc, and will often help by paying costs or giving a lump sum "sign-on" bonus. (Of course you'll be taxed for it as income.)

Otherwise, be as humble and accommodating with the landlord as possible and hope for the best.
