    Networking my laptop and computer?
Hi can I network a laptop and computer by having them both connected to my router? My router is a netgear DG834 v2. Thanks.

Your router contains a 4 port switch. So that should connect to the computer's ethernet port. The laptop can connect wirelessly.

If you want to share files or resources you need to turn on File and print Sharing and set a resource as shared.

    Hello Apologisenow

If your router has multiple in/outputs, and each computer is set to (partially) share (This computer - select drive - and rightclick on sharing and security) , and set to the same network (network management) : no problem !

So could someone tell me completely what I have to do. Once I have my xbox, desktop computer and laptop plugged into my router. What steps should I follow? I want to make a network so my laptop can access the information on my desktop. Also my desktop is on windows and my laptop is vista. Thanks.

EDIT: Also I want to use the printer on my laptop which is connected to my desktop?

I told you what you need to do. Please reread my response. If the router is not wireless then you need to connect your PCs and XBox to the switch ports.

And NK is right, that previous thread does bear on this.

I have read your response but it is not clear enough as I said, could you tell me steps I need to do to create the network? And he is not right because here I am asking how I do it. In my other question I was asking if there was any way to change a wired router to wireless. Thanks.

The purpose of a site like this is not always to give step by step instructions. Since we volunteer our time, we want to be able to answer as many questions as we can, so spending time writing step by step directions when they can be found in your manuals or help screens in not the most productive use of our time. If something is not clear, ask specific questions or look up terms in your Help.
