Is there ways around NOT having a cosigner for an apartment and still being accepted?
I am trying to rent an apartment for myself and my daughter but everywhere's asking for a co-signer because I am on Ontario Works (welfare). I can pay rent, have OK credit but no co-signer. Is there a way around this because I can't keep being turned away due to one thing like a co-signer... :(

I'm a landlord. All I can recommend is that you keep knocking on doors. The landlords are well within their rights to require a co-signer if you don't meet the rental requirements. Try looking fro properties with more of an individual as the owner, not a management company running things. They're often more likely to work with you.

Have you talked to your case worker to see if they have any suggestions? They may know of landlords who are willing to give you a chance. I know a lot of the case workers, and they'll call me about clients, and vice versa.
