What should I charge to paint an interior of a house ?

Depends on geographic location... how big is the house? How many rooms... any special corners or lots of stuff to move... how many colors... ceiling and trim as well? Any walls needing repair...

Since you are asking we probably need to assume you are no a pro or at least new to painting. Handymen in my area charge about $0.50 s/f and the pros twice that. Everything Boomer mentioned will also have a factor in the price. My price is just for walls only.

Also, who is providing the paint. If the customer is expecting you to get the paint, you should find out what kind of paint they want you to use. If you are expecting to pay 25-30 a gallon and they tell you they want to use a Fine Paints of Europe paint, you are going to lose money. Also darker colors = more coats unless you use a product like ben moore Aura

I stick with $250 per room 2 coats, or $60 per wall... plus materials...

But, for future reference for others who come along and want to know about how much to charge or how much it's going to cost to do a paint job, it's important for the person asking the original question to post as much information as possible about the paint job that is to be done.

As has already been mentioned in brief, there are a number of factors that are unknown here, such as: Are the walls textured in any way, and if so, what kind of texture? Is the paint to be put on to be applied with a brush, roller or by spray of some kind? Plus, we don't know how many coats or the sheen of the paint that is to be applied or whether it will be latex or oil-based, depending on the texture of the wall. Are there any repairs to the surface areas that need to be made? Who's going to be doing the job, a pro or the neighbor Joe down the street who just needs some extra money? What about the trim? Most pros charge by the linear foot for painting trim because the paint is almost always applied with a brush.

Many other factors to be considered here that could be added to the ones that I've already listed...

Therefore, it would be helpful to have more information before coming up with definitive conclusions as far as prices. Prices will also vary greatly depending on the location where the work is to be performed. Unlike some other types of work, such as deck cleaning, refinishing and staining, fortunately, the labor costs for house painting, both interior and exterior, is something that's at least somewhat standardized in the United States, but dependent on the location where the paint job is happening.

A lot will depend, we are hiring a painter now to do my moms house, four rooms, about 10ft by 10 ft with 10 ft ceilings.
They are painting all the walls, all the trim and the ceilings for about 900 dollars.

This was about average of the several bids we got.

If the workers are any good, that's a good deal. Is that including materials? I only charge for labor and supply all materials to the customer with my discount applied. This way, I can buy the better quality paints and not worry about cost. Make sure they don't try and sneak in "extras"... alot of cheap trades like to make up a few $$$'s with so called "Extras"
