    Tractor Won't Start-battery strong, won't turn over
My lawn tractor died in use and will not restart. There is spark, there is gas in the tank the spark plug wire is attached, the engine cranks strong but doesn't start. I tried shooting starting fluid in the carb - no luck. Yesterday it started and went 50 feet, died again and won't start again. What could this be? Thanks for your help ~ Frank

Did you check to see if plug is getting "wet" with fuel? If not, I would suspect a fuel restriction. How did the engine die? Did it sputter and stall or just stop instantly like someone flipped a switch. Also, is the spark "strong" ? Or is it a very faint spark?

Thank you for your reply. The mower stopped suddenly, like someone flipped a switch. The spark appears string and I put a new plg in to be sure. I'll check to see if I can smell gas on the plug ~ Frank

Some engines will stop if the engine oil level gets too low, or could the fuel line be plugged or the air cleaner clogged

I checked the dip stick and the oil level is OK. I also tried removing air filter and I get the same cranking and the engine won't turn over. Thank you for the suggestions ~ Frank

Try wrapping electrical tape around the spark plug wire or replacing the wire could be the flywheel key? No really horrible noises like it's thrown a valve or something?
