    Eviction of ex-boyfriend
MY now ex-boyfriend was arrested and removed from my home 2 months ago. His personal property was collected by his nephew a week after his arrest. There is still furniture that belongs to this guy, but he is unable to personally collect it because of a no-contact personal protection order by the state of Michigan. He is being charged for felonious assault against me. During 2 court appearances he spoke to the matter of his furniture but was directed to address the matter in civil court because we were in disagreement about dividing the belongings. July 24, 2008 was the last mention by him for his belongings and his nephew is no longer trying to make arrangements with me. He is not on my lease and has made no other attempt to collect the furniture. It's been 2 months since his removal and 30 days since his last attempt to collect the furniture. By Michigan law are the belongings abandoned, can I remove them now, or what is my obligation to him and his property?

Are you wanting to get rid of them but do not want him to have them?

If you want to be safe and smart about it, rent one of those self-storage units for the shortest amount of time available and have his furniture moved into it. Then send him a letter by either overnight mail or certified mail informing him of the location of his furniture and enclosing the key. In the letter let him know how much time he has to either pick it up or pay for additional storage time.

It will cost you a few dollars to rent the unit and have the stuff moved but from what you've said about him and your situation it would be worth it just to get rid of him and his stuff for good.
