    Wshost.exe
    I am running Windows XP.
For no apparent reason I am now encountering a dialogue box at start up advising cannot locate wshost.exe. Instructions are to either redirect or remove from registry.
I believe this file is part of a "windows scripting" program however have no idea from where it originated.
I can simply bypass the dialogues boxes and all my programs appear to run satisfactorily.
So, do I really need to find this "missing' file? If not, how do I delete from Registry as is prompting?
    Thanks

Try this to remove this file from being run at startup. This is a simple method to enable/disable startup programs.

    1. Run Msconfig utility -> Click on Start - Run - type msconfig and press OK
    2. On the last tab "Startup" locate for your file "wshost.exe" and unchek it to disable it from being run at startup.
    3. Press OK and it will ask you to restart or exit without restarting. Restart your computer and windows will no longer ask you to locate that file or remove it from registry.

    Hope this will help...

If this has started happening recently you might want to try a System Restore. I can jump your PC back a few days/weeks to a place where this problem wasn't occurring. You won't lose any data. More info here.
