I want to install a add on furnace
I want to install an add on wood furnace, but not sure what the esiest way to do it is. I have a gas furnace in my basement right next to my chiminey and the exhaust runs in a metal pipe through it. I want to put my add on down there too but not sur if I can use the same chimeny or not. What are some ways that this could be done??

No you cannot use the same chimney with different fossil fuel sources gas/wood.

The only way to do it would be to erect a new chimney or use L vent like Metalbestos That stuff is good for 2500 degrees which is necessary for wood/coal use.

Adding another chimney will be expensive so here is what I would do. Replace the old inefficient furnace with a new one that uses plastic pipe to vent outside. Then the chimney will be available for use with your wood stove.

When you get tired of playing with the wood you will have a 95% efficient furnace to save on your energy bills.

Would you consider a stand alone wood furnace outside of your home? The aren't that expensive, and they don't require any alterations to your existing furnace.

Rollerman... try Outdoor Wood Heater Bradley Enterprises Homepage. The site is quite informative and it might be something to consider.
