    Kitchen sink drainage
I have a stopped up sink and disposal. I have used liquid drano and it does not work. When I use the garbage disposal, it works but then the water backs up in the other sink. It goes back and forward to each sink. What else can I do. I have also tried using the plunger and it still do not work.

When you tried to plunge did you stop up the other side of the sink? If you are unable to clear with plunger you will have to snake the drain line.

YUP! Harold said it... make sure both sinks are 1/3 full and then have a friend plug the disposal side with the disposal cover/plug and then hold a towel over that... then plunge away at the other side aggressively.

The pull is more important then the push... ok? Set the plunger down tight, confirm suction and then pull back aggressively. Try this a number of times... usually works.

This may only work short term... if so, like Harold said.. time to rent a small electric snake and clear the drain line that way (wear goggles and leather gloves).

You should also know that the snake will have a tendency to go up the VENT as often as it goes down the DRAIN so be sure to have friend check that snake is going down into the basement as you are snaking the drain (and not out the roof... ;))

You can work from under the sink or you could also work from the kitchen sink vent that penetrates the roof if you are in a single story building with little pitch to roof.

Rent the hand snake if working from under sink (see 1st pic.) or rent the medium cable machine (see 2nd pic.) if working from the roof... put out enough to reach the basement plus 10-15 feet or so... ;)

If working from under the sink see if you can get a machine with a DROP HEAD on the end of the cable which increases chances of cable going DOWN the drain instead of up the vent!

Good luck.. let us know how it goes...
