    Geforce 6600GT - only 1024x768 pixel ?
    Hello,

    May I ask the following?

Yesterday I installed a (new) Geforce 6600GT in my PC (from Club3D, AGP version). I installed the driver (77.xx, if I remember correctly by heart) from the CD-rom that came with the card.

Everything works fine - but I wonder why I can't set the screen resolution higher than 1024x768... A friend of mine has only "on-board video", and he can set his screen at higher resolutions than me.

Is it because of my monitor - a 15-inch flat screen monitor from HP, model L1520 - or because my monitor is attached via the VGA connection (I don't have a DVI cable)?

Surely, a card like this one can do better? So, what is the "issue" here?.

You're on target. It is EXACTLY because of your flat screen without a doubt. In order to go for the higher resolutions you need to have a monitor that is capable of handling the resolution AND refresh rate.

The opposite is also true... if you have a high end monitor that can handle 1280x1024 but your video card only is capable of putting out 1024x768 then 1024x768 is the best you'll get.

So, the monitor is just as important as the video card? I wasn't aware of that...

You have taught me something I didn't know... Thank you, Casey.

Just to add, With LCD monitors there is a "native resolution". This is because an LCD is composed of a matrix of pixels. A 15" monitor is small by today's standards and yours has a native resolution of 1024x768.
