How do I get out of my lease?
I live in Florida and have a 1 year lease that I am only a few months into. I need to know how to get out of my lease. Through the grapevine, I had heard that a new law had passed in Florida that if you feel unsafe due to increased crime that one can get out of their lease. There has been 3 shooting in this complex since I have been here, 3 months. Besides finding a sublet is there a way to get out of your lease in Florida?

This has been posted before and no one could find anything definite on the "new law." I couldn't even find such a bill.

The only way, basically, to get out of the lease (which is a contract) is to buy yourself out through negotiation - if the landlord is willing.

There are 3 ways to get out of the lease:

    1: sublet
    2: negotiate a buyout
3: get the landlord to agree to release you

And Florida is the worst state to try and break a lease because the landlord is not required to actively seek a replacement so they can get you for the full balance of the lease
