    Checking account
My name is olga and I recently deposited a check through the atm at usbank (the bank I bank with) and yesterday when I called to check my account I was told that my account was on a hold and that I had to contact the fraud department. Why could that be the banker told me that he didn't know why. I'm guessing that maybe the check I deposited did not have any funds. Can the bank close my account because of that. I did not know that the check had no funds. What is the worse thing that can happen:confused:

First of all, I banked with US bank in the past, and did indeed deposit a check through the ATM. They ended up "losing" my check. I would NEVER recommend doing that. It won't get deposited any faster than if you showed up at the bank at opening the next morning.

I don't think this has anything to do with the fact that your account is frozen. If the check you received was faulty then yes, they are going to investigate it. Just because you are the one that deposited it doesn't mean you will be the one in trouble.

What type of check was this? That would help us provide more information for you.

What did you decide to deposit it through the atm?

If they close your account, you can just open another (I'd recommend a more trustworty bank).

**These are just my opinions, I personally HATE US Bank. So you may find my advice a bit biased, rest assured there will be others to help you here. **

OK, the check is on hold, that does not close your account just means you can't use or spend that money unless it clears. If you have already "spent" the money you will have to pay it back.

The kind of check I deposited was a personal check. But the banker that I spoke to over the phone told me that my account was on hold and that it was scheduled to be closed and referred to the fraud depart. So now I have to wait till Monday and call the fraud dept.
