My Computer icon on desktop not working properly
Hi All,
I am new to this forum, but am computer literate. I build and repair them if that lets you know anything. I have never had a problem like this before.
When I double click on "My Computer" on my desktop, it will then open up to show all of my drives and open ports and such. That is as it should be. I have my folders set to open in the same window always. which it does up to this point. Now, if I click on a drive, or port, it will then open into a separate window. When I click the back button it does not go back, but instead I have to close that window by the "X". Then proceed to go back to my computer.
Is there a script I could use to fix this, or does anyone know how to repair this? Thank you much.

Windows explorer, tools, folder options
On the general tab, see if changing the Browse Folders will help, Open each folder in same window

I have tried that so many times, even restarted, even cold booted, nothing seems to work. I know this little annoyance may sound trivial to some, but it REALLY BUGS me that it won't do what it is supposed to do.

If your operating system is Windows XP, try this registry fix.
- Download the file
- rename the file and take off the .txt extension
- right-click on it and select Merge

Here is a shorter registry fix, but is not in the form of a reg file, you'll have to make the change manually:
Back up the registry first of course.
- Start-->Run-->Regedit
- Navigate down to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell
- double-click on '(Default)'
- Where it says 'Value Data', type exactly the following line:
C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe "%1" - Close Regedit
Obviously you need the right basic settings in the folder options-->file types of Explorer, this is assuming you did all that and nothing else worked.

Yes, I went back after a days rest and figured out I did not remove the .txt extension. Once I did that it has worked very well.
YOU R DA MAN!!
Thank you very much for your assistance in helping me with this problem. I do realize it was trivial to some, but not to me.
Thanks again.

Yeah, sorry about that. AMHD does not allow me to post .reg files here, so I had to add the .txt to get it uploaded.
Glad it worked! Another satisfied customer...
