I just bought a house (older one). Got it for a good price, so expected to have to fix a few things.
The toilet doesn't flush most of the time. Sometimes plunging it will work for a time or two, but mostly not. It fills up to the brim, and slowly seeps down.
Sinks all drain fine.
Hot water in the bathroom sink just trickles out.When I turn on the hot water in the bathtub, it makes a racket. Turning on the cold seems to make the noise stop. Outside spigot makes the same noise until turned on fully.
The only problem with the kitchen sink is the hot and cold faucets are reversed, but THAT one I know how to fix.
Ant ideas on how to fix these things? I'm semi-handy, but would probably need a fairly detailed explanation on what to do. Thanks! Cathy

Hey Cathy, Let's take them one at a time.

The toilet doesn't flush most of the time. Sometimes plunging it will work for a time or two, but mostly not. It fills up to the brim, and slowly seeps down.

As for that lazy potty. Look down at the bottom of the bowl. If there is a small hole, then that is a jet that starts the syphon action. If it's clogged the water will just swirl around and slowly go down leaving solids behind. Take your finger,(UGH! ) and run it around the inside of the opening. Over the years minerals build up and cut down on the syphon (flush) action. If it is rough or you feel build up, take a table knife and put a bend in it to get around the curve in the bowl and chip and scrap it clear. Next take a coathanger and clear out the holes around the rim. They start the swirling action. And last, check the water level in the tank. It should be 1/2" below the top of the over flow tubewhen the tank's filled.

Sounds like loose washers, they ARE two handle faucets and not a one handle valve aren't they?
Shut the water off and open up the valve check the washer s and seats. Now, before you button up turn the water on to flush out the supplies and open valve body. You should have a full stream coming from the supplies. If not click on back and tell me about it. Regards, Tom
