    Judgement may Freeze Bank Account
    Good Day,

I would like to know if it's legal for a Law Office to purchase my credit card debt from a creditor and then sue me for an amount more than 3x the amout I owed initially. This law office has a judgement against me and have frozen my account before. I originally agreed to pay them, but then stopped making payments and now I'm receiving letters in regard to the debt. I called to try and set up another payment plan, but the lawyer handling my account wanted all of my "work" information. I didn't give it to her because I didn't understand why that information was needed. Please advise. And is it necessary to provide such information? What are my rights? This is debt from my college years and I really cannot afford to have my account frozen.

    Thanks
    VJ

Its legal for someone to purchase your account. It is legal for them to tack on certain fees.

If they have a judgement against you they can subbpeona your work and/or financial information.

Your best bet is to somehow borrow enough to make a lump sum settlement to get them off your back.

That is exactly why I do not have direct deposit and do not keep money in the bank.
On this site alone so many people are saying that credit companies are doing that.
It being a student loan (?) Yes they definitely can take the money because it is not an unsecured credit card (which they also will take your money) but student loans are not something you can get out of and are priority over a credit card.
Also the extra tripled charges are stuff like interest and fees.
I haven't used my credit card in two years and it has gone up from $400. To over a thousand while in collections.

I solve this problem by not defaulting on my debts. So I can use the convenience of direct deposit and earn interest on money in the bank.

My credit is shot anyway and it doesn't matter to me I am only in debt by around $3,000. All together not counting student loan which I have to start paying in one month but I do intend on keeping up on that.
